NuLeaf Naturals Is a B Corp-Certified Company. What Does That Mean?

cbd balm, oil, and capsules

At NuLeaf Naturals, we believe that being successful as a company isn’t just a matter of running a profitable operation and pleasing shareholders. We believe that a company has a responsibility to ensure that its business model is truly sustainable. A company should have employees who are happy and motivated. It should be a valued member of its community. Above all else, a company that sources its products from the bounty of the planet must do its part to ensure that everything it does helps to leave the environment as viable for the people and businesses of the future as it is today – perhaps even more so.

NuLeaf Naturals has received the prestigious B Corp certification in recognition of our steadfast adherence to the standards listed above. In this article, we’d like to explain what that means to you as a consumer. We’re going to explain the high standards to which a company must adhere in order to obtain the B Corp certification. We’ll also highlight two of the initiatives that have helped us to become a B Corporation and that we believe best define us as a company.

What Is B Corp Certification?

The B Corp certification is designed to highlight and recognize companies that meet the highest standards for responsible governance, environmental stewardship, social responsibility and employee empowerment. B Corporations must be re-certified every three years.

To obtain and keep the B Corp certification, a company must:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and within the community.
  • Align its corporate governance – legally and in writing – toward the furtherment of the above goals.
  • Practice transparency by making all information relevant to B Corp certification available to the public.

Reaching the above goals requires a holistic and multifaceted approach that involves every area of the company.

  • The company must be governed in an ethical and transparent manner. Corporate governance must set forth a clear mission that aligns all members of the company toward the goals and standards outlined above.
  • The company must prioritize the health, safety, engagement and satisfaction of its workers.
  • The company must promote an environment of inclusivity, diversity and equity.
  • The company must operate in a sustainable way and do its part to protect the environment.
  • The company must use ethical marketing practices and provide a top-notch customer experience.

The thing we’re proudest of at NuLeaf Naturals is that we didn’t need to alter anything about our practices in order to receive the B Corp certification. Rather, we became a B Corporation in recognition of the things that we were already doing as a company. We consider the B Corp certification a confirmation of the fact that we understand our responsibilities as a company and are already acting on that knowledge.

With that in mind, we’d like to spend a bit of time discussing two of the initiatives that helped us earn the B Corp certification and best illustrate our commitment to environmental and community stewardship. These initiatives are among the factors that best define who we are as a company and illustrate what we’re doing to give back to the community and to the planet.

Commitment to Empowering Underrepresented Populations

We believe that a company performs best when it fosters a welcoming, inclusive environment that respects and empowers all people. We want our workers to feel happy, valued and well compensated. Moreover, we believe that a company is at its best when it considers the viewpoints of people with a variety of backgrounds and ideas. We are proud to be a company consisting more than half of female-identifying people.

Our commitment to diversity also extends to our supply chain and other business-to-business relationships. Over 75 percent of the companies with which we do business are majority owned by members of under-represented populations.

Environmental Stewardship and Sustainable Farming Practices

Our commitment to maintaining a healthy environment and watershed isn’t just one of our chief responsibilities as a company – it’s also essential to our ability to continue doing business. Vibrant oil comes from healthy plants, and healthy plants come from a healthy ecosystem.

For NuLeaf Naturals, doing our part to maintain a healthy environment begins with the farming practices we espouse – and it all starts with growing our hemp on organic farmland right here in the USA. Growing our hemp locally allows us to work closely with our farmers and ensure that they adhere to our principles of environmental stewardship. It also eliminates the need to consume fossil fuels excessively for long-distance shipping of hemp biomass. We also utilize regenerative farming practices, which means that our farmers help to keep the land healthy and productive through crop rotation and careful management of nutrients.

Our environmental practices also extend to our resource usage. We satisfy our power needs using renewable energy sources to the fullest possible extent. We also offset 100 percent of our energy and water usage.

B Corp Certification Is Only the Beginning

If you try to buy only from companies that strive to hold themselves to the highest standards as members of the community and stewards of the environment, we hope that you’ve found this discussion of B Corp certification enjoyable and enlightening. At NuLeaf Naturals, we consider becoming a B Corporation a step in an ongoing process rather than an end point or goal. We intend to do everything we can to continue contributing to the betterment of the environment, our employees, our customers and the planet as a whole.
